Fair enough 67 but as i say below.....why dont they budget for far more?

Re: Cross Rail £600m over budget
If Cross Rail comes in at £600m over budget the tax-payer should breathe a huge sigh of relief.

That is literally nothing compared 27 billion

Not far off target compared to most rail projects

Re: Cross Rail £600m over budget
Well they have to properly realise it first, then they have to factor it into multiple budgets and then decide whether it's worth the money. Phase 1 is already started, phase 2 is quite cheap. That goes to Crewe. It's the cost of the work and stations going into the cities that is going to cost. I'd like it if they cancelled that part as it would massively piss off the mancs who are a bunch of entitled pricks who think they're big boys now with their bland, shit city.

Rossal 9:35 Wed Jul 25
Re: Cross Rail £600m over budget
Then why dont they make the budget £50bn higher? Surely its better to underspend then to over?

Gavros 9:30 Wed Jul 25
Re: Cross Rail £600m over budget
They're already factoring in a £50 BILLION overspend on HS2

Re: Cross Rail £600m over budget
For a large scale publicly funded project it's amazing if that's all it is over budget by.

Rossal 8:57 Wed Jul 25
Re: Cross Rail £600m over budget
How can it run that much over budget? How can they get it so wrong

Also not sure if it will be able to comfortably handle the numbers it will carry. Dont get why they havent made the trains double the size or height of current ones to allow easier commuting. I see a video of the new trains in Sydney and they are light years ahead of ours

SSR (re-signaling the underground) will swamp that figure

To be fair 600million is nothing on a project of that size

I know the 12 Bar development was different but the whole thing was opened up by the decision to demolish the Astoria to become the crossrail station.
Precedent can snowball to places that weren't originally envisaged.

Big projects like this are invariably over budget. Nothing to see here.

Queens.

Are your taxes going up?

If not, why the fuck are you wittering?

Re: Cross Rail £600m over budget
If you think Crossrail is the cause of the musical heritage of the West End being gutted you are looking at the wrong target. Look at cashed up Ruskies, Chinese and Indians willing to pay 2% for off-plan residential development just to get their capital out of their home countries.

(Although my brother was an expert witness on the impact on the entertainment industry of Crossrail and he is clear that they were playing pretty fast and loose with the statistics.)

Re: Cross Rail £600m over budget
The fast link from the Tunnel to St P was on time, and under budget.

As a rule the ability to bring things in on time, to specification and on budget is directly correlated with the skill with which the contract was drawn up - or, to put it another way: is risk priced in properly?

However, in the case of CrossRail there were unforeseen geological issues that exceeded perfectly reasonable risk assessments. We know less about what is going on under our feet than most people suppose.

Re: Cross Rail £600m over budget
Crossrail may be an amazing engineering project but I will never forgive it for demolishing the Astoria and the 12 Bar Club.
The best venue in London bar none.and leading to the gutting of the West End's musical heritage.
Fuck progress if that is what it takes (yes I am an old git).

When Khan came in he sacked loads of people on that project...my mate being one of them....admittedly he was on 250k a year as a PM !

Re: Cross Rail £600m over budget
600 million is peanuts for a massive infrastructure budget like crossrail, less than Wembley cost to build.

Admittedly Wembley was massive fuck up in terms of cost but even so if Cross Rail came in at 1.5 billion over budget that would still be par for the course.

Since when did these massive projects ever run to budget?

Never.
